In praise of water: World Water Day

World Water Day is a chance for us to appreciate water and take action to ensure water remains accessible for all beings on Earth.

Since 1993, people around the world have been marking March 22 as World Water Day (WWD), an opportunity for everyone to take a moment and appreciate all that water provides.

Water creates and shapes life in many ways, big and small. It provides hydration for plants and animals, helps regulate our climate, and physically changes the face of our planet. Water is fundamental for life on Earth.

This year’s WWD theme is “Accelerating Change,” a call for urgent action to meet global targets to provide clean water and sanitation for all by 2030. Everyone can take action on water, big or small, as the story of the hummingbird and the forest fire illustrates.
