Katrine K. Donois

Katrine K. Donois is a Ph.D. student at Anglia Ruskin University, UK. Her research concerns the multiple ways in which ‘science’ is communicated or understood and examines the processes that impact the effective communication of science. The main focus of her Ph.D. is on investigating how non-experts perceive scientists (or experts ) in order to gain a deeper understanding of likely reactions from non-experts in regard to acceptance of science and expert knowledge or advice. In addition, the project seeks to explore how scientists actually “go about” communicating contested science (such as routine vaccinations, anthropogenic climate change, and genetically modified organisms). The project aims to suggest ways for experts to improve science communication.

Anti-vaccination groups, as well as other anti-science movements, are not new phenomena, nor are the nature of their objections. Unfortunately, because history is usually ignored when dealing with current scientific issues, people fail to acknowledge that most anti-science arguments have been around for centuries.
